As part of an ongoing series where we ask industry professionals what they use to get the job done, we speak to Chris, Experience Design Consultant with ThoughtWorks.
I'm an Experience Design Consultant with ThoughtWorks, currently working in the financial sector with Ireland's largest bank in Dublin. Passionate about design, Lean UX and the future of the industry.
Digital: MacBook Pro, magic keyboard and mouse, iPhone 6, Jays headphones. Analogue: mechanical pencil, Sharpies (black + one other colour), too many notebooks, too many post-it notes.
This often depends on client requirements so I have the popular design packages installed. However most teams are now on the 'Sketch with Invision' setup that, I believe, puts too much focus on pixel perfect designs and very basic prototypes. Currently I'm trying to educate designers that design thinking and experimentation with rapid prototypes is more valuable to product development than simply jumping into a software package to design user interfaces.
A room with whiteboard magnetic walls and fresh whiteboard markers delivered weekly.
A pen - any pen will do! I can't go anywhere without something to visualise my thoughts with. Recently I delved into the mechanical pencil world (thanks to Tim Gale) with a Uni Kuru Toga Roulette Pencil and I'm totally sold - I'm such a designer geek.
Thanks Chris!
